### Design and Runtime Modes

Surf the Wave now supports two modes for Designers and Admins: **Design Mode** for building and configuring Grids, and **Runtime Mode** for viewing the Grid exactly as standard users see it. Switch between modes with a simple toggle and receive a visual confirmation of the active mode.

You can also switch between **Design Mode** and **Runtime Mode** directly from published Grids on **App Pages** and **Record Pages**. This allows you to make configuration changes or validate the user experience without navigating back to the Surf the Wave page, making Grid management faster and more convenient.

For more information, see the [Surf the Wave documentation](https://docs.valorx.com/valorx-wave/release-notes/wave-embedded/pages/fm4j3cA2o5DevaNZvP0i#id-5.-switch-design-or-runtime-mode).

### Matrix Export to Excel or CSV

Get your Matrix data into Excel or CSV in just a few clicks. Fine-tune date-based exports with a custom range or bring in historical data for the full picture, and export with confidence knowing you'll be alerted upfront if your layout needs adjusting for a clean result.

For more information, see the [Matrix Export](/valorx-wave/matrix/matrix-runtime.md#matrix-export).

### New Standard Actions and Link Support

Building actions is now more flexible with new **Standard Actions** and enhanced **Link** capabilities.

**Enhanced Link Support** introduces two new ways to work with links:

* **Link Style:** Display any action as a **Button** or a **Link** to better match your Grid design.<br>

  <div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/p0gBM3G92bSlnRd3ZoYg" alt=""><figcaption><p>Link Style</p></figcaption></figure></div>

* **Link Action:** Create actions that open a specified URL without requiring a custom Aura Component, Flow, or Lightning Web Component. The visual URL builder supports configurable host URLs, paths, parameters, token insertion, URL preview, and the option to open links in the same window or a new tab.<br>

  <div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/AkbdvFSMHhcURKhl4Min" alt=""><figcaption><p>Link Action</p></figcaption></figure></div>

**Standard Actions** let you quickly add native Salesforce actions, including **Create New Record** or **Edit Existing Record** without requiring custom development. These actions use Salesforce's standard record experience, providing a familiar and consistent user interface.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/XVuZ87lSaSFsUBZZvjzW" alt=""><figcaption><p>Standard Action Type</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Smart Import: Clearer Guidance for Lookup Field Mapping

Mapping lookup fields in [Smart Import](/valorx-wave/import/import-overview.md) is now more straightforward. Wave shows guidance on what your spreadsheet column should contain, and when to use Lookup Via for **non-ID values** like names.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/VYFgb09kA0xVDJtI5H6k" alt=""><figcaption><p>Smart Import</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Filter Collection Improvements

Managing [Filter Collections](/valorx-wave/wave-data-management/managing-grid-data/filter.md#filter-collection) is now cleaner and more intuitive. Set a default filter so your grid loads exactly how you want it, rename collections with a single click, and enjoy a simpler, less cluttered card view. Quick confirmation toasts are also available when duplicating or deleting a collection, so you always know when an action is completed.

You can now create a Filter Collection without any filter conditions. This allows you to save an empty collection as a starting point for future filtering. Only one empty Filter Collection can exist at a time.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/sDXzSdxLcuezvY7LtJ8b" alt=""><figcaption><p>Filter Collection</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Save Progress Indicator

Wave now provides real-time visibility into the save process for both **Grid** and **Matrix**. Track each stage as records are validated, saved to Salesforce, and updated in the Grid or Matrix, with a live batch count showing the progress as records are processed.

This makes it easier to monitor save operations and understand the status of large data updates.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/w3iAAycMMQT4sRrBgRDe" alt=""><figcaption><p>Save Progress Indicator</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Configurable Save Batch Size

Admins can now set how many records are processed per batch when saving. This helps avoid payload limit errors on large saves by breaking the data into smaller, manageable batches, so big saves go through smoothly.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/9Nk11P8yrO9CBAZ04rqj" alt=""><figcaption><p>Batch Size</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### 360 Snap Viewer: Enhanced Design and Usability

[360 Snaps](/valorx-wave/wave-admin-and-control/360-snap.md) Viewer gets a cleaner, more intuitive experience. See the record name right at the top, and manage related lists with a simpler, clearer interface. Closing the viewer is now just one click away.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/fPpIwvgwjBv3zcClBAc5" alt=""><figcaption><p>360 Snap Viewer</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Format Options for Currency and Date Fields

Control how currency and date values display in your grid. Show or hide the currency prefix, and choose a date format, standard, easy-to-read, or custom.

### Admin Controls (Edit) in Matrix

New **Admin Controls** have been introduced in **Matrix**, providing Designers with quicker access to editing and configuration capabilities. The button displays the available **Matrix Configuration** steps in a dropdown menu, allowing quick navigation to specific configuration areas.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/iT9j8sSv0lVNKq8SCj0P" alt=""><figcaption><p>Admin Control in Matrix</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Dynamic Filters for Matrix Record Selection

Matrices can now adjust their filters based on the record you're viewing or values passed in automatically, making one matrix reusable across many contexts.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/cvDtHrr2KJTlMdrd1qaP" alt=""><figcaption><p>Dynamic Filters in Matrix</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Cleaner Matrix Toolbar

The [Filter by Color](/valorx-wave/wave-data-management/managing-grid-data/rule.md#filter-by-color) icon now only shows up when there's something to filter, no more empty dropdowns.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/x0EAixKXcy8F78reYusN" alt=""><figcaption><p>Matrix Toolbar</p></figcaption></figure></div>

<h2 align="center"><mark style="color:purple;">Minor Enhancements</mark> <span data-gb-custom-inline data-tag="emoji" data-code="1f31f">🌟</span></h2>

### Enhanced Loading Animation

Grids now load with a smooth placeholder animation instead of a blank screen, so your data feels like it's already on its way.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/wRaNTdRaJYJHPopDtctq" alt=""><figcaption><p>Loading Animation</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Smarter Object Picker Search

Searching in the object picker now returns more relevant results, faster. Exact matches show up first, followed by results that start with your search term, then everything else that contains it. Finding the right object takes less scrolling and less guesswork.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="/files/0xDwrQhfyVObasGfrxPO" alt=""><figcaption><p>Object Picker</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Day Names in Timeline Custom Date Format

Add the day of the week to your Timeline headers using the `DDD` or `DDDD` tokens, for short (Wed) or full (Wednesday) day names.

## Bug Fixes 🐛

We've resolved multiple issues to improve stability, permissions handling, and overall grid and matrix performance.

* **Grid Restore and Delete Permissions for Admins**\
Fixed an issue where Admins couldn't restore backups or delete Grids created by another Admin in the same org. Row Actions, Grid Actions, and Filter Collections are now fully manageable by any Admin in the org.
* **Filter Panel Failure After Opening User Object Grid**\
Fixed an issue where opening a grid on the User object could break filters across all other grids. Applied filters display correctly in the Filters panel and grid data filters as expected.
* **Picklist Values Missing Without API Access**\
Fixed an issue where picklist values didn't display in Wave Grid for users without API access enabled on their profile. Picklist fields now render and function correctly regardless of API access.
* **Personal Copy Grid Cleanup on Global Grid Save**\
Fixed an issue where saving changes to a Global Grid didn't prompt for or remove associated Personal Copy Grids as expected.
* **Global Search Limited After Grid Action Refresh**\
Fixed an issue where Global Search results were limited to the first 200 records after a Grid Action refreshed the grid. Search now reapplies correctly across the full dataset.
* **Lookup Search Gaps in Expanded View**\
Fixed an issue where searching lookup fields in the Expanded Lookup Selection View could intermittently miss matching records, particularly on fields with large record volumes.
* **Grid Description Not Saved**\
Fixed an issue where a grid's description entered in the Grid Wizard wasn't retained after reopening the grid.
* **Grid Action Failure with Formula Date Fields**\
Fixed an issue where Grid Actions using an SObject Collection failed when a Formula Date field's underlying Date field wasn't added to the grid. Formula Date values now pass in a valid format regardless of grid configuration.

## Wave Embedded v23.1

Wave Embedded v23.1 introduces **Matrix Import**, a new feature that allows users to import data from Excel files directly into a Matrix. This feature was deferred from v23 to support the accelerated release timeline.

#### Import Data for Matrix

Bring external data directly into your Matrix. Upload an Excel file, map your columns to Salesforce fields, and import in just a few steps, no need to update records manually.

Key capabilities:

* Reuse previous mapping setups from **Recent Mappings**, so recurring imports take just a few clicks.
* Automatic field mapping and measure detection, with the ability to adjust and reorder as needed.
* A final Summary screen for reviewing record counts, batch size, and mapping details before import.

For more information, see the \[[Matrix Import and Export documentation](/valorx-wave/matrix/matrix-import-and-export.md)].

<figure><img src="/files/0pWml1BQKEV5tzinM9Pl" alt=""><figcaption><p>Import Data for Matrix</p></figcaption></figure>

**Known Limitations**

* Only horizontal matrix orientation is supported for import with a single-level X-axis at this time.
